Firewood Lamp #4
The base comes right out of the wood pile. One of our firewood suppliers dries their wood on a big open lot and moves it around with a front loader and over time the small pieces get scuffed and worn looking. Some of these pieces have a pleasing plainness to them, too nice to burn, so they end up in the studio waiting to be hollowed out and electrified. The shade is a handmade copper wire frame wrapped with brown paper and appears to floats above the log, connected by a thin copper tube. A 40 watt LED lightbulb in a warm range works well; lower watt bulbs can also be nice.
